if ur ...

if ur hurting

C.S. Lewis said, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: It is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world."

God never wastes your pain. God wants to bring good out of your bad situation. God loves to turn crucifixions into resurrections! In fact, unless you include God in the equation of your pain, then all of your hurt becomes meaningless. Have you considered that in your pain, God may be trying to get your attention? Not that God caused your pain, but that He noticed your pain, and decided to draw near to you. God comes close to us in our pain and seeks to establish a relationship of trust and love. He offers to us His power, His comfort, and His strength to carry us through anything life can throw at us.

Maybe your pain is because of a stupid decision you made, or maybe you’ve been the victim of another’s bad decisions; either way, God offers you His hand to hold you up and guide you through. Psalm 34 says, “The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

Pray this prayer for comfort and strength:

Lord Jesus, I come to you, not in strength, but in weakness. You said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” I ask you to please give me your comfort and strength today. You taught us to pray, “Give me this day my daily bread”. I also ask you to give me this day my daily grace, my daily encouragement, my daily wisdom and my daily strength. I need you, Lord Jesus. You are the vine and I am the branch, apart from you I can do nothing. You said, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” So, I come to you, Jesus, seeking your rest. Thank you for keeping your promises to me. In Christ’s name I pray this prayer. Amen.

Aldersgate believes that caring begins with our own members and extends to the community around us. We have a number of programs to help our members, their families, friends and neighbors when they are hurting, such as:

  • Seeking financial peace
  • Support during divorce
  • Dealing with grief - You do not have to journey through grief alone... The Pastoral Care Team and Bereavement Ministries of Aldersgate United Methodist Church want you to know of the resources available to assist you in your grief. Grief is a process, not a destination. Every grieving person has different needs, based on personality, gender, age, physical condition and many other factors. It is the aim of Aldersgate's Bereavement Ministries to address the mainstream needs of all grievers and provide a path, in God's presence, for you to begin your journey.
